TERTULLIAN'S CORNER: June 2010
Date : 2010-06-23
Dear Readers,
I apologize for the delay in writing this issue's letter. The Summer issue as published on June 15th. As usual, we have an ecletic selection of material, featuring writers who have become some of our favorite contributors. It's hard not to publish these writers, dedicated artists that they are.
This issue also features an insightful essay by Brett Alan Sanders, one of our founding writers.
I have also posted a press release by the ADL on the new immigration law in Arizona. I have written a series of essays (posted in Tertullian's Blog) on the complexities of the illegal immigration issue. Despite the frustration of the people, particularly those who live in those areas of high illegal trafffic, the debate has become cover for those who simply hate Mexican people. The comments on most mesage boards of mainstream sites reveal a deep antipathy towards Mexican and Latinos. The ADL has boldly and unequivocally battled this bigotry.
I'm personally disappointed that some radical Latino groups have emmulated the tactics of the anti-Mexican crowd by using the Arab-Israeli conflict as a pretext to smear the Jewish people. Hated of other groups is not only immoral but plain and willfully ignorant as there is only one surving human race, Homo sapiens. This, I believe, is a by-product of the attack on the science of evolution. We must recognize that we are products of nature, all intertwinted with even other life forms. To believe that one groupf of the same species is inhereant inferior or superior is plain pathetic.
For now, let us fight our battles for enlightment and find temporary refuge in poetry.
Yours truly,
Rosa Martha Villarreal
