BETH WINEGARNER: The Uninvited Guest [Poetry]
Published on April 08, 2008Email To Friend    Print Version

The Uninvited Guest

When the earth's red shadow
covers the moon, will you and I switch
places --
will our feet stand
in each other's shoes --
will I finally see in your eyes
the land beyond my borders?
When blood swallows that
white coin and casts dark
currency across your skin
will I trade my fear
for passage into your
dusty country?
Will her russet mask
slip and naked light fling
bright beams onto my every
unsaid word?
Do not see me in the face
of the moon, the face of
the moon in mine.
Let the darkness be total.
